Monika first arrived in Budapest as the honored beneficiary of a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship, which she received after graduating from the University of Washington in her blue and green hometown of Seattle, WA. She arrived with one suitcase, a Hungarian dictionary and an eagerness to live out-of-context.
Monika is now studying
for her PhD at Central European University. Her focus is on online social media and the changing nature of self-presentation and communications in urban spaces.
She has previously worked as staff writer and director of community development for the All Hungary Media Group's network of websites and blogs. After, she spent a year living and writing in the pulsing historic megacity, Istanbul, Turkey. Monika also has experience in marketing, public relations and copywriting.
Monika has stepped foot in 27 countries, and counting. She first learned to love her feet during the nine years she danced classical ballet. Though these days she is more apt to be doing yoga or riding a bicycle.
